What being an Ambassador for Space Cadet means to Ruby

Hey everyone, Ruby here! I’m the first Artist Ambassador for Space Cadet and I’m thrilled for the opportunity to collaborate with them! I see this partnership as a chance for both Space Cadet and I to evolve and push ourselves to explore and express new ideas through this collaboration in art and in building community.

My role as Ambassador is an opportunity to use my platform as an artist to advocate for more diversity, inclusion, and equity within creative spaces like Space Cadet. As an active artist within my community, I’ve experienced firsthand the lack of representation and inclusion of cultural diversity that lies within the city and the arts community. My goal is not only to work on evolving my art practice through innovation and exploration at Space Cadet but to also address the lack of diversity, inclusion and equity within these spaces as well as to develop and advocate for the inclusion of diversity within their programming.

I want to aid BIPOC artists in showcasing their work at Space Cadet and in other venues within our arts community, in addition to working with BIPOC youth to express their voices. I’m currently a member of ANIMARTE RENO, a collective of local artists in the community who are committed to addressing the cultural needs of underserved BIPOC communities. ANIMARTE RENO and Space Cadet are presently working on ways to collaborate together to make the art modalities that Space Cadet offers more accessible to BIPOC youth in our community.
