C-1000

C-1000 is a taxidermied crab with polished chrome claws—a strange hybrid of natural history, science fiction, and imagined artificial intelligence.

The piece is a playful nod to the T-1000 from Terminator 2: Judgment Day, reimagined through the lens of environmental responsibility. The crab, an organism shaped by millions of years of natural evolution, becomes a symbol of the living world that humanity is rapidly transforming. Its mechanical-looking claws suggest an artificial intelligence stepping into that relationship and making a decision of its own: to intervene and offset the environmental impact created by humanity.

The tension between the preserved organic body and the cold, reflective chrome speaks to an uncertain future where technology and nature become increasingly intertwined. C-1000 asks a provocative question: If artificial intelligence eventually develops the ability to make its own decisions, what happens when it decides that protecting the planet requires protecting it from us?

Part environmental commentary, part science-fiction fantasy, C-1000 uses humor and recognizable pop-culture imagery to explore the uneasy possibility that our greatest technological creation could ultimately become the planet’s most unlikely environmental advocate.
