My Heart is Yours

My Heart Is Yours is a 3D-printed anatomical heart submerged in a pool of blood, carrying a single, deeply familiar word tattooed across its surface: “Mom.” The tattoo was created by local tattoo artist Joe Rock, bringing an authentic mark of permanence to an otherwise sculptural representation of the human psyche.

The piece explores the lasting influence of childhood trauma and the ways unresolved experiences can quietly shape our behavior, relationships, fears, and choices long after childhood has ended. Like a tattoo, these early experiences can become permanently embedded in us—sometimes hidden beneath the surface, but always influencing the way we move through the world.

The heart becomes both a literal and metaphorical representation of what we carry forward from childhood. My Heart Is Yours asks us to consider how much of our adult identity is consciously chosen, and how much is being guided by wounds, attachments, and patterns established before we were old enough to understand them.
